A pair of overly optimistic birds created a nest at the end of my driveway--one which was intended to house their new family. Although I live downtown, I feared that my neighbors may shoot the birds if they were to find them in the low branches of their chosen tree.

Unfortunately (for their own maniacal pleasures) their cat found the nest before they did, and I found it later--full of crushed, un-feathered nestlings. I had already started to share the birds foolish optimism and was greatly dissapointed to find them destroyed.

These birds would have likely never graced my driveway were it not for the unending destruction of natural environments surrounding the city (in the name of progress and to create new homes). This progress continues unchecked in spite of the countless uninhabited buildings and lots still available downtown.
